The Purpose of this Blog...

For the sole purpose of entertaining our Families, and a couple of other reasons.

Naptime

Today I made a big meal for when Raul came over to my apartment after his classes were done. He really liked the spanish pork chops I made and had two huge plate fulls. He then went over to the couch and started to fall asleep. To make it feel like we were actually doing something together I asked him to lay his head on my lap. So now he is sprawled out on the couch with his head on my lap snoring to his hearts content. OH, sometimes between snores he wakes up enough to tell me to call my mom then goes back to snoring. :-) It's actually kinda cute in a bizarre way. I'm keeping myself amused by playing on the computer and every so often waving my hands kinda frantically in front of Raul's face...he sleeps with his eyes half open and I sometimes wonder if he can see me so I wave to make sure. Plus it's just funny to me.

:-) Love Janna

Yellowstone

:-) I guess I get to talk about the animals and any random thing that comes to mind about the trip. Well after we set up the tent and viewed a few things together in mammoth it was time to go back to the campsite and eat supper and go to bed. The first night we ate foil dinners that turned out fantastic, thank you Raul! After cleaning up our area we went straight to bed and boy were we tired...until, a very kind park ranger came along and woke us up at about 11:00 pm to tell us that we had left our camping grill and our water cooler out. There's some rule about putting EVERYTHING up before leaving or going to bed so that the bears won't be attracted to the campsite and so that they wouldn't have things to 'play' with, amazing how we missed reading the sign that was nailed right in the middle of the picnic table. So Raul got out of bed and proceeded to put the two things that we left on the table up while I turned over and went back to sleep.
I have to say that Yellowstone is the weirdest place climate wise, at night it will get down to 30 degrees and in the middle of the day it could be somewhere between 75 and 90 and this is the first of August, weird huh. Of course we weren't thinking it was going to be too bad so we didn't think too much about it when we went to sleep the first night. With the fact that both of us were really tired and it being cold made for one unpleasant night. Apparently when I sleep I like to take all the covers and give most of them to the floor without knowing it. I don't remember how many times Raul woke up in the middle of the night shivering from the cold because I had taken all of his covers away. After the umpteenth time he was getting kinda mad.
The days were a lot of fun. If you ever see a bunch of cars pulled over and people standing in a group you know to start looking for whatever animal they're taking pictures of. It doesn't even matter if its a deer, there maybe tones of deer all over the US but there is no deer like the Yellowstone deer and we have the pictures to prove it...lol. One incident was the funniest, we were coming back from mammoth for some reason when we saw a ton of people with their cameras out all excited about something. After we pulled over Raul and I started looking for what everyone else was staring at when suddenly I saw it. It was a BEAR! I was so excited that I jumped in my seat and immediately started to pushing Raul into the car door saying, "It's a bear, it's a bear!! Get out of the car, get out of the car, get out of the car!!" The poor boy didn't even have time to open the door before I was shoving him into it trying to get out. I have to say he was quite shocked that I wasn't more calm about the situation or that I could push so hard when I was determined to get out of the car and he was in the way of that. Oh and if you were wondering whey I didn't go out the other door that's because we managed to pile a whole heap of stuff in both the seat and the floorboard. It was either get out on the side Raul was on or knock all of that other stuff out of the car on my way to see the bear, I choose Raul's side. :-)

Another great moment was when we found where all the buffalo were staying at, we were so amazed by how the acted. I'll let the two videos speak for them selves....

Now for the scenery. The side of the park that we were staying on had just started growing new trees to replace the one the massive fire destroyed. On the other side of the park was some of the most beautiful scenery I think I have seen. This video just shows a glimpse of the kind of stuff we were seeing.

:-) oh and I can't leave out a video of what Raul and I do in the car when we're bored, if you catch us at the right moment on the roads in Utah you will see both of us doing this....enjoy :-)

Yellowstone

Yellowstone was definitely a one of a kind experience. From the rainy, cold nights to the pushing and screaming from Janna in the car, it was a lot of fun.( I will explain that part later.)
We left for Yellowstone at 1:00 o'clock in the morning on Tuesday. It was a 6 hour drive, and we needed to be there before 8:00 am to have a chance of getting a good campsite. Nancy was not very happy with me for leaving that early, but we tried to be safe
and rest when we where getting sleepy. Everything went to plan until we actually arrived to the park. We headed towards Norris Campgrounds which was a 40 min. from the west entrance of Yellowstone. We arrived at the campsite at about 8:20 and the campsite of 100 sites was already full. We decided to keep driving around and hope to catch someone leaving. As we go around a corner we see that there is one open campsite for a walk only sites. We put our tags on in, and prepare to unload.
Remember that I had
been driving all night, and I only had a chance for a 3 hour nap before we left that night; I was tired. I am ready to unload and fall asleep. As I give Janna the money for the site, I start walking back with the tent in one hand the bed in the other. I behind to see a ranger fixing a problem with the tent sites which include mine. As I approached I saw that my tag had been moved, and I questioned the reason for it. What had happened was there were two sites open, a walking site, and another site reserved for hikers and bikers. I had chosen the biker site but had put the other site's number on it by mistake. The Ranger asked me if I wanted the biker site and I said that I would prefer it. What happened next infuriated me. The Ranger grab my tag, crushed it in his hand and look at me and said, "Too Bad." I was shocked, and decided to hold my tongue and run back to the truck before Janna would pay for a Campsite that was not ours anymore.
The people who got the site was a couple of guys I had flagged down, informing them that there was one campsite open. In a way, I shot myself in the foot for being a nice guy.
Well all things happen for a reason.....
We decided to head to another campground. I wanted to head east and then north, but for some reason I was disoriented and drove straight north. We hit a Campground named Indian Creek. I was lost so we just turned into it hoping to have luck. The moment we drove into the area
, we both liked it. We saw a couple leaving and took their site. When we went back to pay for it, we had another unexpected surprise. The site had been paid for an extra day, and we couldn't rent it until the next day, as we head back the couple were leaving. We told them they had paid for an extra night. The couple looked at us and said, "Merry Christmas, it yours."
Norris campsite had very small sites and very crowded areas, Indian creek was more in the wilderness, with less people, and much cheaper than the Norris. I was very pleased someone had used my lack of sleep and patience to lead me where Janna and I needed to go; Janna will also attest to that.
I started to unload the things from the truck and set camp, and while I did that Janna left to the nearest lodging area to fill up the truck with gas, and get to know the area. When she returned we set the sleeping bags on the bed, and went to sleep. Mammoth Hot Springs was only about 7 miles away, and there is where we took our showers and grabbed anything we needed.
It did not matter how tired we were, at 12:00 o'clock we got up, and could not sleep any longer. We started our adventure, stopping at anything and everything that captured our attention. From Cliffs, Waterfalls, geysers, or just a simple rock, we were there.
My favorite thing we found was "The Boiling River." It was located at the bottom of the Canyon from Mammoth Hot Springs going north. That river is so hot it would boil anyone alive, but it joins a cold river. The Boiling River cascades into a much larger river, and this creates one of the best hot tubs I have ever felt. The water is full of minerals, and it cascades into the river like small waterfalls. Careful, if you got to close to the current of the Hot water, you might just feel a burning sensation. Sitting in between waterfalls was the best place to sit. Not to count the beautiful sunset in the Background, with the biggest smile I have ever seen on Janna's Face. I apologize, I did not take any pictures of this place. Maybe next year we can all go enjoy the Springs.
The Rest of the Trip, I will let Janna Finish...

Another Enjoyable Weekend

To be honest with everyone, I didn’t think this blog would be followed much more than Janna reading it; well I was wrong. Good thing I didn't say anything Inappropriate or Janna would be coming after my head, or like she did this morning with a water bottle. Janna definitely took the principal of a water fight to a whole higher level. Imagine this…
Sunny Monday morning with hundreds of people surrounding the newest build temple in Utah, Janna is chasing me in the parking lot of the temple, drenching my stunning striped black suit, after completing the open house for that temple. Yes, that is correct!
Well, that isn't the only thing Janna has done in the last couple of days. Yesterday we arrived to a ward we had never gone before. I was cooking Lasagna for a friend dinner, so I was late and had to go to another ward. Sacrament meeting was starting in about 30 min, and one of the wards that met in the building was having a Munch and Mingle. Janna threatened, forced, and manipulated me into going into that gym and getting her a plate of food from a group of people I had never seen before. I promise I put up a good fight, but it was not match for the cunningness of Janna L. Hobson. After church we headed to the Canyon where we took a walk, and dipped our feet in the ice cold water of the Provo River.
On Saturday, Janna and I had a very enjoyable day, other than the torture I experienced in the park before my soccer game. Janna decided to dig squeeze, and pull every pimple, ingrown hair, and anything else that interested her from off my poor sensitive body. At the Game, I kept hearing whistles and cat calls from the corner of the field from a beautiful young lady, laying on a blanket with a gallon of water next to her side. The temperature was 102 degrees, so that girl laying down became my objective, I desperately needed that gallon of water…
The Carnival that night was definitely something I am going to remember. Janna looked amazing with her green dress shirt, and her beautiful smile. I enjoyed myself that night. I am pretty sure Janna did also because you could see it in her smile, but specially in her eyes. Carnival rides are not my strength so after our last ride, I was permanently nauseous and sick for the rest of the night, that is always a great way to end the night.
As you can see this weekend was very interesting, but also fun. I hope you enjoy the rest of the pictures that we took this weekend.
Until Next time,
Raul Jaar

Car Wash Disaster

According to Janna, I am a clean FREAK, but lets start from the beginning. This morning Janna and I decided to go and make some fast cash, so we heard about a plasma donation center in Orem. We went to the first place and they where temporarily closed. Every place we tried, which were three, were full for the day. All Janna and I can say is that we live in one broke society. Can you believe it? We were up by 8 am and every place for plasma donation was already full.
So we decided to go home, but we couldn't because my wonderful Janna forgot her keys on the kitchen table, and of course the doors would be locked. So Janna texts both her roommates hoping to get a key. Katelynn who works the closest to the house said we could come by and get hers, Janna takes short directions and heads off. Of course Janna has no clue where she is going but dang if I could tell her that because her response would be, "shut it Jaar!"
Well I got my Payback, as we are leaving Katelynn's work, I decided to go and get a car wash. Now these are the self moving car washes. Janna has definitely never been in one of these, actually I would be surprised if she ever has washed her car. Her view of a car wash is leaving it out when it rains, just to make the mud slide down her car, hoping it will leave it shinny and clean. Just getting her to the right stall to pay for the car wash was interesting, but the hilarious part is when you enter the actual car wash, there is a man with a big sign telling you to put your car in neutral, and behind him there is another sign with the same instruction but with red letter is says," Foot off Brake." So what does Janna do, keeps her foot slammed on the brake. She wasn't going to let that car go anywhere unless it was her doing. She was nervous enough driving my car into the car wash cause both my dad and I are obsessed about my car. Janna freaked when the car started jerking and drop down again, the hilarious part is that she thought it was the guy pushing the car. The jerk was a lot stronger than I could ever lift the car, and that is saying something, so I don't know why she thought the worker was doing it.
During all this the worker runs to the driver window pointing to the foot off brake sign he is carrying, while I am calmly saying in a loud voice, "Sweetheart, get off the brake!" But it doesn't stop there! We start to exit the car wash and there is a car behind us on the tracks, and I thought,"If Janna presses on the brake or doesn't go when it is over, I am getting hit." So the green light flashes and she's suppose to drive off but the car isn't moving. I'm telling her to go while worrying about the car behind me that's steadily getting closer when she finally looks at me and loudly states, "I've got to put it in drive hoomie!" She's just laughing at this point saying that she's never going to another car wash again and I'm thinking, "yeah you're right, and definitely not in my car." lol, JK.
So we go out to the vacuums, dry my car, clean the windows, and we are off again. As Janna is driving I start cleaning the dash, and Janna begins to tell me not to be such a clean freak. She looks at me and put her finger on my windows, and I look at her while a puzzled face and reached across the seat and clean that dirty window. As soon as I do that Janna gives me her, 'this is going to be fun,' look and starts putting her hand print all over the window. I finally get her to stop and clean the window....again, when she turns and gives me a mischievous smile. The next thing I know she starts jerking the car side to side and imitates tires squealing then slams her hand against the window. She then turns to look at me and busts out laughing. I was speechless. After the 5th time of cleaning my window I made her get out of the car once we were back at her house.

Chicago

Our relationship officially started in Chicago. For the last couple of months Janna had visited Utah, and Chicago was my second visit to Illinois. We had planned to visit Chicago before, but for some reason my time in Illinois was always shortened; this time we were not backing away. I arrived in Springfield, and that is when I saw again the Janna we all see now. She had cut her hair, which was a big change to me, but she looked beautiful; I was falling in a Love all over again...
We decided to take Amtrak to Chicago, which was a fabulous ride. I laid back on Janna, out y body across both seats, and I out for the rest of the ride. Don't worry, Janna fell asleep on me on the Trip back to Bloomington. When we arrived in Chicago, it reminded me a lot of what my home town in Honduras was;busy, noise, rude people, and taxis as far as the eye can see. It was actually fun just jumping on a cab, getting off somewhere you had never been before, go explore for a while, and once you were bored or tired call a cab and head somewhere else.

In Chicago Janna wanted to go to the Hard Rock Cafe, that was very entertaining; afterwards we head the to nearest Walgreen and equipped ourselves with toothpaste and mints for the trip.
At night, I got in serious trouble with Janna; I was cold so we decided to go shopping for some kind of Jacket. We went to the Lucky store, actually found something I liked, but they didn't have my size. We went to plenty of stores and finally found a Kenneth Cole New york. We started to look at a couple of Leather Jackets, and there where half off the sale price. That s a good deal right? Not for Janna, specially when the original price for the jacket was $450.00 dollars. With the sale it would have been $164.00...

You should have seen Janna's face, she looked at me straight in the eyes with that Stern Southern hospitality and said, "Put that back!" Well I did the only think I could have done in that moment, I put it back. Don't worry the story does have a happy ending. We found a Marshall store, and found some scarfs that I liked, as we went to pay for it the cashier informed us that they did not carry that scarf. We asked him, What should we do," he looked at us and said,"I didn't see anything, why don't you guys so go ahead." I looked at Janna, she looked at me and we walked out of that store with a free scarf. I guess someone had left it behind, and we were the lucky ones that found it. So there, I was warm again.
The funnest part of the trip in Chicago was the dinner Cruise at the Pier. Janna looked Gorgeous. She was wearing a white and black dress, the exact same dress she was wearing the day I approached her at church. We had a a great lunch, enjoyed a great view, and had an amazing time together. That is definately one of the foundest memories together. After the cruise we enjoyed a concert at the mall there at the Pier in Chicago, and just spent time together. The most entertaining part is the video we took at the end to the trip. We went to the hotel, picked our stuff, Janna changed her cloths, and head to the nearest park to go and relax before we took our train back to Bloomington.

Janna's Point of View

So Raul asked if I would share my view point on how we first met, and from what I can remember this is how it went.

I had been living in Armington, IL with my sister and her family for about two years now, and going to the singles ward in Bloomington a total of maybe 7 or 8 times during those two years. As it turned out one of the missionaries for the singles ward was Raul, but of course I never noticed because he was a missionary. I never found missionaries interesting, for one they were there to serve a mission and not to flirt, so there was never a reason to look, and two...why on earth would I even want to date a mormon boy? I'm sorry but most mormons are weird and annoying. If I want to wear a tank-top by golly I will wear one, if I feel like not going to church nothing better be said to me about it, and if someone in church is to ask me to give a talk or take a calling they better be prepared to receive the answer NO...N-O, NO! That is unless you catch me on a really good day. So why on earth would I date a mormon that would definitely have me change all this, and you know that if they are or were a missionary you can pretty much kiss this kind of rebellion good bye? I know, I know, the joke's on me, but whatever!

So as it turns out the singles ward is done away with and everyone was told to go back to their family wards, it all had something to do with not enough singles showing up to church..... oops, our bad...lol, I'm just kidding...it was a real tragedy ;-). So one Sunday I'm horribly woken up by either my brother-in-law or my nieces. I can't really remember because they did it so often that it all kinda runs together. Me being the Molly mormon I am I slowly get out of bed and very slowly take a bath and get ready for church. Well somewhere in the mist of me getting ready and Jeremy telling me how much longer I have to get ready, the whole family gets into the car and leaves without me. Finally, I can go and sit on the couch and watch TV in peace, which was what I was about to do. For some reason however I decided to finish getting ready and go to church. 45mins after church has already started I finally walk into the chapel and sit down with the family. Jeremy leans over and whispers, "Glad you could finally make it." With a loving smile I reply, "I know, aren't you proud!?!" With sacrament over my plan was to get in my car and to go somewhere, maybe a park, and just relax. As I start to walk down the hall I see out of the corner of my eye some guy v-lining it towards me.

My first thought was, 'Dear God, please don't let this guy be coming over to talk to me.' Sadly the mass of people did not provide enough block so that I could get away and suddenly there he was standing in front of me...staring. With a smile and in a pick up line sort of way he asks, "Don't I know you?" With an annoyed look on my face and with the thought of Moron going through my thoughts I half smile and say No and turn to leave. But darn it if this guy didn't grab a hold of my arm as I'm trying to get the heck out of there, so I turn around just as he snaps his figures and says, "Bloomington!" Ok, so he might actually know me. We talk a little and he states that his name was Elder Jaar and that he was one of the missionaries from the singles ward, of course he thought that would jog my memory and I would remember him. Yeah, like I care what a missionary's name is or what he looks like.

We then part and I spot my sister, just as I'm about to walk over to her and walk out of the building Elder Jaar comes back over and asks if I would like to go with him and his companion to a girl's house named Sam. They had been teaching her about the religion for a little while and he thought it would be a good idea if she started to know someone around her age that also went to the church. I had nothing better to do that day and I was in a good mood so I said yes, but only under the condition that if I didn't want to talk I didn't have to say anything. After church I met the two elders at the park so that I could follow them to Sam's house. Elder Jaar being the sweet guy he is gave me a pop-tart to eat just in case I was hungry. Four years of eating pop-tarts as a meal in school made me really not like the sight of them. I gladly excepted it however, then thought I was going to be sick the second I bit into one. So we go to Sam's house and they teach the lesson and me having the big mouth that I have blatantly stated that the song they had chosen to sing for the lesson was one of my lest favorite songs. Honestly to this day I still think that me going to the lesson was not a good idea.

Afterwards the two elders and I went outside and talked for a bit next to our cars. I found out more about the two of them and kinda realized that I somewhat liked Elder Jaar, but him being an Elder I put that thought out of my head. We said our goodbyes and as I was walking to my car, for some reason, I turn around to look at Elder Jaar and thought to my self, "Ask me to wait." Don't know why I thought that and felt absolutely stupid for thinking that, I then turned back around and continued walking to my car. That was the beginning of lots of unannounced Sunday visits and teasing by Jeremy stating that Elder Jaar liked me. I kept telling everyone that they were missionaries and they were just being nice and it was there job to come over and see members of the ward and I kept telling myself that he didn't like me......

The Beginning

In the beginning, Janna and I were tow different people from two very different places. As everyone knows, I was born in San Pedro Sula,Honduras and remained there until I was twelve years old. San Pedro Sula is the second biggest city in Honduras, and probably the dirtiest one. In 1998 my family decided to move to the United States for a more safe environment.Janna on the other Hand, was born and raised in Homer, Georgia. A small town north of Atlanta in a beautiful country home. As we can all see the probabilities of us running into each other or ever meeting were against us, but fortunately we bet the odds.

This is where is gets interesting...

If Janna was living in Georgia, and I was living in Utah, how could we ever meet. Well it took a couple of years, but we decided to meet each other half way. Well I didn't, I was called there.
Here are the Series of Events....
1) In August of 2006 I am called on a Spanish speaking Mission to Peoria, Illinois.
2) Janna decides to Leave Georgia and move in with her sister Julie in Armington, Illinois. ( Illinois State University is located in Bloomington, Illinois; which is about 40 Min. from Armington. Bloomington and Armington are both 45 Min. from Peoria, Illinois.)
3) I left for the MTC on the 29th of November, 2006.
4) Janna comes to Utah, for a Skiing trip, with her Sister's Family in the months of early December.
5) I leave for Illinois 3 days before Christmas.
6) Janna remains in Illinois, at the same time I am, while she goes to school during the week, and works at a hospital during the weekend.
7) I serve in the cities of: The Quad Cities, Beardstown, Champaign, Bloomington, and finally Pekin.
8) Armington is the furthest city in the Pekin Ward boundaries.

While I was serving in Bloomington, I served in the singles ward assigned for the whole Peoria Stake. I was there for about 5 months before I left for Pekin. After being in Bloomington for a couple of months I saw Janna for the first time. She walked into the chapel one Sunday morning, sat down, and kept everything to herself. That Sunday I was giving a talk, but if you ask her about it she doesn't remember me one bit;Which is actually quite typical of her. During sacrament meeting she was probably paying more attention at the couple in the front row, then to anything else happening in the room, including me. (I still think that is hilarious... she does not remember me in the least bit. Janna always asks me,"Are you sure it was me? Are you sure it wasn't someone else?")

I think I am going to have Janna tell the rest of our story, so we can all see what she was really thinking...

The Purpose

The Main Reason for this Blog is for my sweetheart Janna. Through this Blog I will record all of our wonderful experiences we have had together.

One night after getting off work, I went over to Janna's apartment to enjoy the rest of the night with her; I walked into the room and I could see that something had seriously upset her. She was struggling with the recent move, and also the engagement was stressing her, and she was starting to feel imprisoned. She was also very upset because the one person she care for the most, was the person she had neglected the most when it came to keeping a record. Throuhout all her previous relationships, she had keeped every text, email, letter, note, and anything else you can imagine, however with me she only had two notes, one letter, and that beautiful ring, that I had given with a promise of an engagement, fitted around her finger. From that moment, I decided I would do my best to keep a record for us, something to show her how much really means to me, but also how i much i really listen and remember her feeling and emotions.
Well, lets start.................................
